Jon: Louis Vuitton’s genius marketing scheme…

jonheader.jpg

…enough to make me, a true LV hater, talk up their shit!

At the recent Murakami/Louis Vuitton show held at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, LV took a quite postmodern approach in combatting the common sight in New York of black market merchants selling counterfeit bags. They hired actor/sales people to pose as street vendors selling fakes. The twist is that the bags are actually real. The only thing in the set up that was not immitating the illegal underground was the price. The monogram cheap coated canvas bags were still selling for thousands of dollars. What’s amazing is that people actually bought in to it! I mean, if you are going to blow that much money on a cheap coated canvas bag, you’d think you would at least expect the royal treatment recieved at a normal LV store! Whatever, rich people with no taste are wierd…

I will give Louis Vuitton this though: the marketing ploy was enough to get me to write an interest piece about them. As a person who actually has taste and the ability to tell quality/value, I’m the last person who would normally promote them.

You win this round, Louis Vuitton….

I agree. Louis Vuitton bags are really ugly. The only reason the bags are so popular is their explicitness as status symbols, even the fake ones. Also, is that lady drinking Champagne through a straw? WTF? Is Champagne like juice for rich people?

Heya. Entertaining blog (do I capitalize blog?)

I once knew a woman who carried her Chihuahua in one of those bags. Meanest damn dog I ever knew; which probably had nothing to do with the bag.
