…thank you for being a friend

The Golden Girl/Geriatric Firercracker passed away today at the age of 84. She will be missed. I am really going to miss her when I see Golden Girls reruns on Lifetime, especially since it’s one of the few cable channels we get with our extra-basic cheapo package. She was also in several comedies including Mannequin and Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot.

One of my favorite memories related to her was back when me and Jon first met. He stole a poster of her from the University of Massachusetts Health Center that was captioned “Knock out the flu with Estelle Getty”. It had a picture of her in a boxer’s pose wearing a hoody and sweatbands and was supposed to get people to get their flu shot. I couldn’t find this anywhere on the internet, so instead check out this remix of a senior workout video she did back in 1993.

i believe golden girls is a show that seems like it would be terrible and it is perhaps because of that/the general fact that it was about senior-age women it may never get the respect it truly deserves. that poster sounds amazing!
