Jon: Gaycondo loves Twin Peaks…

jonheader.jpg

While Paul is largely correct in his appraisal of why we have not been blogging as much recently (we are too busy fighting/worrying about the election), he forgot to mention the fact that as a house we have collectively been power watching the entire series of Twin Peaks. It’s extremely addictive and time consuming, and even though we have all seen it before several times, it remains oddly captivating. So every night when the four of us come home, instead of not talking while blogging, we are not talking while watching a TV show from 1990. sigh…

As I do with most things I become temporarily obsessed with, I have been doing pointless online research about the show in order to make myself feel less guilty about how consumption based TV viewing really is. The wiki article on the show is full of fascinating tid bits. For example, did you know  that Frank Silva, the actor who portrayed the terrifying character Bob, was only cast in his role when he accidentally stepped into the frame of a shot while working a set decorator for the show? He had never even acted before…

While researching, I was also reminded of a hilarious SNL skit spoofing the show. It took a little work, but I was able to track it down. Click the image below to view the video…

I watched Twin Peaks when it first came out–our whole family spent time grouped in front of the set each week! But somehow, being able to see it on DVD was even better! You didn’t have to wait a week to see Leland singing oe find out who was bedding who next week… Glad you’re enjoying it!

Far out show, dad. You know, I think I’ve watched everything Lynch has done, except well
…okay, there’s a couple movies, but seen ALMOST all, his TV shows and movies, like On The
Air, the trilogy of stories with Crispin Glover in the last (best) one, and a collection of
short films on DVD from Multnomah Library. The latter has a short film that is SO CONFUSING
I cannot convey it; it is a parody of French and American stereotypes. There’s these very
obvious cowboys played by HD Stanton, Jack Nance, and Tracey Walter* and this Frenchman with
french bread, a beret, the whole bit. I watched it once high, and it was like… it put me
in a trance. So I had to watch it again sober, later, and it still made as much sense, maybe
    even less.

Love Fire Walk W/ Me The MOVIE, too, as much as TV show. Bowie, Chris Isaak, the woman
with the sour face, funn stuff.

*his performance in Repo Man, among the best of all acting ever!!
