Paul: George Tiller killed…

img_1611

… I have been trying to aviod politics lately, but the murder of Kansas abortion provider has really shaken me. I understand that people have very complicated views about abortion but in my opinion Tiller was a hero. He continued to perform late-term abortions in spite of anti-abortion groups targeting him for decades and inflicting what can only be called domestic terrorism.  His clinic was bombed in the 80’s, he was shot in both arms, and the threats against he and his family were so bad he often wore a bullet proof vest in public.

Late term abortions in this country happen when it is medically necessary, and for fear of their safety there are hardly any Doctors who will provide them. Before today if you lived in Portland and needed a late term abortion Tiller’s Wichita clinic was the closest place you could get one. In spite of what people think about abortions, the procedures that Dr. Tiller performed were lawful and saved a lot of women’s lives.

Jon: More amazing pictures from atlantis411….

jon new logo

Last week I posted about Atlantis411, a website where people preparing for a future gay cruise can post pictures and info about themselves in order to help meet people on the boat. Most of the pictures are pretty *meh* but some are completely fucking amazing! A big trend I noticed on the site is that a lot of the couples have these ridiculous professional pictures, frequently involving matching outfits. I have this theory that this is something that is available to purchase when you are on the boat.

My first reaction was “How retarded! There is literally no way Paul and I will do this!”

My second reaction was “How retarded! Me and Paul have to do this!

Now we just need a theme…hmn, which do you think we should choose?

Jon: …more from Andy Blubaugh….

I just found another video by Blubaugh to promote The Adults in the Room that is mostly a discussion on the relationship between Sam Adams and Beau Breedlove. Don’t know what the hell I’m talking about? Read the previous post!

Jon: Andy Blubaugh’s first feature length film…

jon new logo

Completely by coincidence, I happened to google local film maker Andy Blubaugh to see what he was up to. Apparently I am psychic or something, because today just happened to be the day when he posted on-line the first trailer for his upcoming film The Adults in the Room. Not only does this look to be one of Blubaugh’s most provocative films to date, it is also going to be his first feature length. Blubaugh has been one of my absolute favorite local film makers for a while now, and I am totally excited to see what type of mojo he can work when given a larger pallet to paint on.

Blubaugh’s films largely focus on autobiographical narratives that unfold through unconventional and postmodern methods. From what I gather on the official site for The Adults in the Room, the film is going to examine the dynamics of Blubaugh’s first romantic relationship; a relationship he had with a 30 year old man when he was still in High School. Where a more conventional film maker might tell this story wholly through scripted and edited acting, Blubaugh has instead chosen to go in a different direction. The film appears to tells it’s story through a combination of performed narrative as well as interviews with prominent thinkers (*swoon* Dan Savage) about the implications and social realities of such a relationship. To make things even more meta-rific, the film is also going to analyze the emotional and intellectual roller coaster of Blubaugh’s experience in making the film. That’s right, Adults in the Room is also going to be a documentary elements about the making of itself.
I think the currently topical relevance of this subject can do nothing but help the film succeed. Here’s hoping that Andy Blubaugh will come out in favor of our Mayor, but either way I’m sure his analysis of the whole Sam Adams thing will be worth taking in.
So, here is the ridiculously pre-mature trailer that Blubaugh put together using mostly dialogue from the script as read by actors during auditions:
ps: Why am I not best friends with Blubaugh yet?
Dear Andy: Let’s go get drinks sometime!

KEEP IT ON THE BROWNLOWE: The Bird and The Bee

emglasses

One of my new fav bands on the 2009 radar is Los Angeles duo, The Bird And The Bee.

Apparently, Ellen digs them too. Check out their performance of “Love Letter To Japan” on Ellen’s talk show!:

Beyond their clearly infectious pop jams (and genius choreography) I don’t really know much about The Bird and The Bee…

After I do more research I will return with a full report…

Got any good leads?
