Paul: Morgan Grace is a Vampire…

img_1611

…no, she’s Portland’s pop princess.

morgan grace

I just stumbled upon this cable access video on youtube and I can’t get the song out of my head! If you aren’t a fan of the music (which would make you crazy), you have to at least wait for the big surprise about 20 seconds in.  This song reminds me of Scout Nibblett but Morgan Gfrace is just as capable of sounding pop-punk, folk, or even bubblegum. A couple of years back she won the American Idol Underground contest and I keep waiting for her to go mainstream but so far she has stuck to her Portland roots. Anyway, check out this fun and oddly touching performance…

i love morgan grace a lot too! i did a really good interview with her a few years ago (geez, time flies since 2006) and she had a lot of smart things to say about being a woman in music

check it out on church of girl:

Wow. Never seen anyone put thought into their
    cable access showmanship…

    re: the online interview-
I just watched We Jam Econo, and The Minutemen were
definitely doing jazz in their work.
Guess it goes without saying that her ex-manager should
    be executed.
    She mentioned Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and Guns & Roses;
the new format of 105.9 FM is almost exclusively those
bands, plus Bon Jovi and Queen (I kind of think as the
odd band out, since they somewhat had style). Morgan might
dig that station! I just wish it was still playing oldies.
(I like old G&R, just not the same 3 songs from Appetite
    on repeat.)
I loved Bratmobile (and Cold Cold Hearts). Strange to think
that Riot Grrrl had to BE a movement at all, that women doing
punk was an issue in the 1990s when so many 1970s bands that
pushed the genre artistically (Slits, Liliput, X-Ray Spex,
The Raincoats, Essential Logic, The Fall, etc.) had women.
People just flat-out forgot. Mass amnesia.
